A Story I’ll Never Forget

I carefully scanned and restored the images, creating digital photographs from negatives that had been unseen for decades. The before-and-after comparisons on this page show the results from the collection.
Scanning and restoration do different jobs. Scanning captures the image held in a negative or print and produces a digital file. Restoration works on that digital image to improve damage or deterioration that scanning alone leaves visible.
Depending on the original, restoration may involve correcting fading and color, reducing scratches or blemishes, and repairing damaged areas. The work and achievable result depend on how much image information survives; not every original can be fully restored.
When I sent her the finished photos, she replied:
